Some past events 2004-2006

 

Saturday 11th September - Saturday 18th September 2004: 'Shrewsbury's Railways' - an exhibition of photographs at Shrewsbury Abbey 10.45am - 4pm

Wednesday 15th September 2004: 'Shrewsbury's Railways' - an illustrated talk by David Giddings at the English Bridge Workshop, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury 7pm. Car-parking at the Abbey Foregate Car Park is suggested.

Monday 4th October 2004 for one week: Exhibition of Railway Paintings and Prints at the English Bridge Workshop, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury. 10am-4pm daily.

Wednesday 10th November 2004: Visit to the Engine House at Coton Hill, Shrewsbury. 7pm. This building is scheduled for redevelopment, so this may be the last opportunity to see it in its current state.

Tuesday 23rd November 2004: Annual General Meeting at 7pm in the Council Chamber at the new Guildhall, Frankwell Quay. Members and supporters are welcome to attend. Refreshments and an informal discussion will take place after the formal business of the AGM has been completed.

Tuesday 1st February - Saturday 19th February 2005: Exhibition of Railway Paintings by John Austin, Ron Dellow, Alan Dart and others at The English Bridge Workshop, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury SY2 6AD (Tel. 01743 243283).

Wednesday 11th May 2005 Guided Walk. Northern Trail to The Flax Mill starting from outside The Plough, Castle Foregate at 7:00 p.m. This is a circular guided walk of about 1½ miles to the Flax Mill and back. We will cover three major goods depots of former Rail Companies and be able to appreciate the fierce competition between them for carrying goods. The walk will include a historical consideration of the replacement of the canal by the railway as witnessed at the Flax Mill and at the back of The Buttermarket on Howards Bank.

Tuesday 14th June 2005 Guided Walk "Return to the Back of the Sheds". We start from the Old Abbey Station (car park opposite Shrewsbury Abbey) at 7.30pm and walk up the old Potts trackbed across Rocke Street to Adams Ridge, then follow the old Severn Valley Railway trackbed down Pemberton Way to Sutton Bridge, then down Scott Street, the old Rocke walk, Old Potts Way, the Railway Viaducts back to Abbey Foregate. About one and a half miles long.

Tuesday 1st November 2005 'Thomas Brassey and friends - in Shropshire and beyond'. An illustrated talk by Dr Barrie Trinder, writer and historian, at 7.30 pm in the Council Chamber, Shire Hall, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury. Admission Free.

Tuesday 1st Nov. - Saturday 19th Nov. 2005 Two Exhibitions at The English Bridge Workshop, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury (tel. 01743 243283). 10am-5pm Daily (except Sundays); Sundays by appointment. Admission Free.

'John Austin G.R.A. - One Man Exhibition of Original Railway Paintings and Prints'. John Austin is 11 times Winner of the Guild of Railway Artists 'Picture of the Year'.
